KUCHING: In a land where culinary delights reign supreme, Sarawakian chef Jordan Wee has not only embraced this spirit but has also brought immense pride to Sarawak by clinching the World Top Gourmet Award 2023 in the international cuisine catering category.
The World Top Gourmet Awards (WTGA) 2023 organised by World Gourmet was held at the Sunway Resort Hotel on Nov 1 and was officiated by Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan.
Starting from humble beginnings in 2016 as a small entrepreneurship business, Wee has since elevated his craft by introducing innovative buffet catering experiences.
From ice and fruit carvings to showcookings to canape-style receptions and halal-certified international cuisine buffets, he has captivated many hearts of the people in Kuching.
Additionally, this event serves as a platform to enhance the skills of chefs and local eateries in Malaysia, aligning with initiatives leading up to the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign unveiled during the Budget 2024.
The World Top Gourmet Award serves as a valuable insight for both locals and tourists, guiding them to a diverse array of dining experiences, ranging from upscale restaurants and cafes to charming neighbourhood eateries—helping diners to discover the rich and diverse food scene of the region.
Renowned culinary figures such as Tourism Malaysia’s Ambassador Datuk Ismail Ahmad, Cooking for Charity founder Jeffrey Tan, three-Michelin star Forum Restaurant executive chef Adam Wong, among others, attended the event to show their support.
Established in 2017, World Gourmet has been a driving force behind the promotion and support of over 300 local eateries, with plans to extend this support to 500 establishments in the upcoming year.
World Gourmet serves as a dynamic platform, stimulating the economy by fostering growth in the food and beverage (F&B) sector, encouraging cross-learning, networking, and creating economic opportunities for F&B operators.
