DUBAI: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and MASDAR of United Arab Emirates will collaborate to develop clean energy in Sarawak as part of the state’s green economy initiatives.
The collaboration follows a discussion held earlier between Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and MASDAR top officials.
Abang Johari witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two entities at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) here yesterday (Dec 6).
The Sarawak government Facebook page, Sarawakku, said SEB chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili signed on behalf of his organisation while MASDAR was represented by its CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi.
Earlier, the Premier and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan had a brief meeting with MASDAR that touched primarily on MASDAR’s investment prospects in Sarawak’s quest to be the regional hub for clean energy in South East Asia.
MASDAR, with its presence in more than 40 countries, is one of the world’s largest renewable energy companies and a green hydrogen leader that has placed the UAE in the forefront of the energy transition.
