BINTULU: The contractor has been urged to speed up work to upgrade the drainage system behind the Boulevard Shopping Centre for the safety of road users.

In making the call, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming said that the project had been delayed for no reasonable reason and this was causing difficulties for the public who used the route every day.

“The safety of road users must be prioritised and the work  must be done as soon as possible to reduce the risk of accidents causing injuries or deaths,” he said.

He said this while inspecting the site of the Assyakirin drainage system expansion project here recently.

Meanwhile, relevant departments and agencies had taken actions to deal with the problem of water puddles temporarily by digging water channels and opening drainage ditches.
