KUCHING: A pre-dawn fire has partially damaged the kitchen area of a Tahfiz school in Kampung Semerah Padi here today (Dec 10).
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as 32 students and staff managed to evacuate to safety.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Petra Jaya and Padungan stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 3.51am.
On arrival, they sprang into action and extinguished the fire to prevent it from spreading to the main block.
The flames, which had caused about 30 per cent damages, was completely brought under control at 4.15am.
Overhaul works followed suit to ensure that there is no possible reignition at the scene before concluding the operation at 5.18am.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
