KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here has handed down a seven-month prison sentence to two local men for the possession of Methamphetamine.
Lai Shin Yung, 32, and Norazizi Ramli, 34, each pleaded guilty to separate charges brought before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
Lai was apprehended at a café in Batu Kawa around 9.25 pm, with 0.79g of the illegal substance in his possession, on July 10.
Meanwhile, Norazizi was found with 0.10g of Methamphetamine by the roadside in Kampung Bintawa Hulu around 10.30am on Sept 27.
The charges were made under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
If convicted, it carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment for a term of up to five years, or both.
Based on the facts of the case, both men were arrested by the police in separate occasions as they were believed to be involved in drug activities.
During the inspections, a transparent packet containing crystalline substances was discovered in Lai’s pants, while Norazizi had a straw tube containing similar crystals in his left hand.
Reports from the Chemistry Department confirmed that the seized items were Methamphetamine drugs, weighing 0.79g and 0.10g, respectively.
Insp Ammarsoffi Yusoff prosecuted the cases while, the two men were not represented by counsels.
