MIRI: Three individuals here have had their applications for Malaysian citizenship and blue Malaysian identity cards (MyKad) approved by the National Registration Department (NRD).
The trio, part of a larger group of applicants, have now collected their respective MyKads.
“They were amongst 15 applicants that we helped to apply for Malaysian citizenship and MyKad,” said Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting after meeting a group of 15 applicants at the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party’s (SUPP) Piasau office today (Dec 12).
During their visit, the applicants thanked to Ting for his assistance in the MyKad and citizenship application processes. Ting, who holds multiple roles including SUPP secretary-general and Piasau assemblyman, noted that the rest are still awaiting their Certificate of Citizenship from NRD, with the youngest being 10 years old and the oldest at 25.
In a related matter, Ting commented on the recent job scam that ensnared 121 Malaysians, including 54 Sarawakians. He highlighted the successful rescue of these individuals from an overseas syndicate.
“Seven of these 54 individuals rescued were Mirians, and fortunately, we managed to evacuate them safely,” he said, reinforcing his advice to the youth to exercise caution.
