Over 1,000 graduates as UiTM Sarawak holds 98th convocation

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The 98th convocation ceremony at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak here saw a total of 1,260 graduates celebrating their academic achievements.

Held from Dec 13 to 14, the ceremony honoured 530 graduates from the Bachelor’s Degree programme and 730 graduates from the Diploma programme.

The event comprised four sessions, with the first session hosting 324 graduates, followed by the second (312 graduates), the third (315 graduates), and the fourth and final session (309 graduates).

A significant highlight was the recognition of 75 graduates receiving Vice Chancellor Awards, with 60 of them being female graduates.

The convocation was officiated by pro chancellor Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz and attended by vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib @Sahibuddin, marking his first visit to Sarawak since assuming the position on Nov 2.

The ceremony continued from the previous one held at the UiTM campus in Shah Alam from Nov 18 to 30, followed by UiTM Sabah on Dec 7. Notably, 2023 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of UiTM Sarawak.

Commencing operations on July 1, 1973, at the Batu Lintang Campus with only 94 students, UiTM Sarawak has grown significantly, boasting nearly 9,000 graduates pursuing studies from pre-diploma level to a doctorate.

Adding vibrancy to the convocation, UiTM Sarawak organised a convocation festival featuring various exhibition booths showcasing products and souvenirs. The event also included open competitions for staff and students.

Present at the event were UiTM Board of Directors chairman Datuk Dr Raduan Che Rose, and other distinguished guests.
