KANOWIT: An elderly rider was killed following a collision with a 10-tonne lorry along Jalan Majau today.
The victim identified as Belon Lanting, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene while the 60-year-old lorry driver did not sustain any injuries.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said firemen from Kanowit station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 11.22 am.
The team confirmed that due to the accident, the victim was thrown off his motorcycle onto the opposite lane.
Paramedics confirmed that the victim died at the scene and his body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.
Before concluding the operation at 12.18 pm, the team helped to remove the motorcycle from blocking the main road.
