KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has advocated for every Dayak family to strive for at least two graduates.

He emphasised the importance of education in empowering Dayak youth to compete in various fields.

“Previously, it was one graduate in every family, but this is outdated. We should have two graduates in every family.

“One of the most important areas is education, play your part, we want our Dayak youth to be able to compete in all areas,” he said.

Uggah said this in his speech when attending the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Pre-Christmas Dinner at PCC Demak here last night (Dec 15).

Stressing on the importance of education, Uggah said SDNU will be in a position to guide and assist the Dayak youth to enable them to be successful in their own future endeavours.

He said to move forward, education is a key aspect and has urged all Dayaks to have a network with other people and use that to grow and expand each other’s capacity either for work or education.

“You have your network, please spread that out and make sure to (use) it.

“For example, Datuk Gerald, his platform is youth and entrepreneurship, find out from him regarding the systems and the programmes about youth and entrepreneurships,” he added.

Uggah also added on the importance of being united, carrying the spirit of ‘Segulai Sejalai’ especially within the framework of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Among those present at the event were SDNU President Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom and SDNU Deputy President Christopher Gira Sambang.
