SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) graduates have been urged to uphold the state’s green economy and sustainability achievements.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak is fortunate as it is not within the category of countries that emit carbon but, rather, Sarawak is the ‘lung’ of the world emitting oxygen.

“Therefore, in light of this new challenge, we must maintain the position of Sarawak as we move to a new era of global development,” he said.

He was officiating at the UTS’ 8th Convocation Ceremony at Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor’s Hall here on Sunday (Dec 17).

Facing new challenges, he stressed the importance of maintaining Sarawak’s position in global development, with green energy and sustainability being key priorities.

“I wish the young graduates maintain the position of Sarawak as it is today (well known for its green energy and sustainability).

“Let us be the champion, the champion of sustainability and we contribute to positive development to mankind,” he said.
