SELANGAU: Sarawak will explore new potential energy sources by adopting power-to-gas-to-power (P2G2P) technology under its green energy agenda.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said P2G2P is a new theory about electricity where hydropower can be split to produce gas—oxygen and hydrogen.
“The hydrogen (gas) can be stored in a station and later can be converted into power again. This means power can be converted into gas and later, it could be converted back to power,” he said in his speech while officiating at the launching ceremony of the Selangau Riverfront and the Selangau District Office building today (Dec 18).
Abang Johari added that the state currently has hydropower and is implementing floating solar projects, producing hydrogen that can create ammonia and gas. These gases can be stored in power stations.
“Later, we can use the gas to convert it back into or to generate electricity. All these three can be implemented in Sarawak, whereas Arab countries cannot implement these,” he said.
Abang Johari also emphasised that in line with this new energy exploration, the state needs to develop talent from our younger generation.
“The future (for Sarawak) is there. We only need our children (young generation) capable of developing this energy,” he said.
