KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences to the family of legendary singer Datuk M Daud Kilau who died at Hospital Teluk Intan, Perak yesterday.
“May his soul be blessed and given the best place by His (Allah’s) side.
“May Allah grant his family a high level of patience. Thank you for entertaining the people in Malaysia and being one of the jewels of the country,” he said in a post on Facebook.
The Prime Minister is currently on a five-day working visit to Japan since Dec 15, among other things, to attend the Asean-Japan Commemorative Summit.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a post on Facebook expressed shock over the star’s death, adding that no one could replace the latter.
Ahmad Zahid said the deceased, who was a native of Bagan Datuk, Perak, produced works of art that were not only the pride of the community in the district, but also throughout the country.
“Malaysia has lost another artistic jewel, the late Datuk M Daud Kilau who was quite talented and had a big heart.
“Condolences to all members of his family and may they persevere to face this test. May the deceased’s soul be blessed and placed among the pious,” he said.
Known by the nickname ‘Raja Gelek Malaysia’ and singer of the popular song ‘Cek Mek Molek’, M Daud Kilau, 85, was confirmed to have died at Hospital Teluk Intan, Perak at about 4.40 pm yesterday by his grandson Hasnor Ikram on Instagram. — BERNAMA
