KUCHING: The Bintawa Hawker Centre, which suffered damaging to its roof during a recent thunderstorm, has undergone swift restoration ahead of schedule, bringing relief to hawkers.
The roofing replacement was completed well in advance of the slated deadline of Dec 24, a commendable feat acknowledged by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
Acknowledging the efficient efforts of the contractor, Wee presented the project completion certificate today, recognising their prompt action in restoring the hawker centre’s infrastructure.
“The urgency of this repair stemmed from a direct appeal by hawkers, communicated in a letter to MBKS on Dec 3.
“The request was expeditiously conveyed to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who swiftly endorsed the repair request within two hours,” said Wee.
Wee said the pace of the roof reconstruction project is notably commendable, considering its significant impact on the daily operations of the hawkers.
The timely completion of the project has significantly eased the challenges faced by the hawkers, ensuring a safer environment conducive to their business activities.
Their commitment in completing the project well ahead of schedule has minimised disruptions to the hawkers’ businesses.
“We are also grateful to the Deputy Premier for promptly endorsing the request for repair works, acknowledging the urgency of the situation,” he said.
Wee also thanked MBKS Deputy Mayor Datuk Zaiedi Suhaili, councillors, the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK), and the local community for their cooperation and support throughout the restoration project.
