SADONG JAYA: Compensation payments involving land acquisition by the government for the implementation of the Second Trunk Road (STR) project need to be promptly addressed.

The project also includes the construction of a new highway connecting the Batang Samarahan Bridge to the Batang Sadong Bridge and subsequently the Batang Lupar Bridge.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, stated that this matter is crucial as the project is already underway, and contractors have entered the site.

“Therefore, we urge the implementing parties, namely the Public Works Department (PWD), consultants, and contractors, to arrange or facilitate these compensation payments as soon as possible.

“It is important to ensure the smooth implementation of the project, and we do not want any obstacles or undesired issues to occur,” he said.

He made these remarks during a media conference following a working visit to the proposed project site for packages A1-B and A2 and the road preparation to Sebuyau, here, today.

Furthermore, he expressed confidence that the Sarawak government would compensate those involved based on the respective land values.

“At the same time, we also urge PWD to collaborate with the Department of Land and Survey (Landas) and the local residents to ensure that no obstacles occur during the project construction,” he emphasised.

He informed that the visit conducted yesterday was also to identify these matters.
