SIBU: A deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) analysis will be conducted on bone fragments found at the drain at Jalan Bukit Assek here.

Sibu Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that a total of 83 skeletal remains were found so far.

“DNA samples from these bones will be sent to the Forensic Unit of the Chemistry Department for further investigation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng on his Facebook post on Thursday (Dec 21) expressed his gratitude to the police and local council workers for working hard to recover the 83 skeletal remains.

“They worked non-stop from 8 am to 4 pm and discovered 83 skeletal remains of a human being,” he said.

Chieng expressed concern over the case, hoping the police would solve it soonest.

On Tuesday, the local council workers stumbled upon a skull believed to be that of a human adult while cleaning the drain.

The case is currently under investigation and has been classified as sudden death.
