BETONG: Due to the shortage of streetlights on most rural roads in the outskirts and interior areas, the Sarawak government can conduct a detailed study on the necessity of utilising illuminated road markings in the dark.
Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam stated that this would ensure road users feel safer and more comfortable.
“The technology of illuminated road markings in the dark can be considered for implementation in rural Sarawak.
“However, the Sarawak government is advised to conduct a detailed study on the necessity of using this technology,” he said.
The Saribas assemblyman mentioned this when asked to provide feedback regarding the suitability of using this technology in the state, today.
He said he believes the new technology is suitable, safe, and cost-effective.
“It can play a role as an illuminator and guide during driving. Therefore, road users will feel more comfortable and safe.
“Moreover, rural roads in this state still face problems of insufficient street lighting,” he stated.
