KUCHING: Popular Indonesian rock band Nidji closed a two-day Borneo Sarxindo Concert, captivating over 2,000 people who serenaded to their song’s ‘Laskar Pelangi’.
Siti Nur Shameera, 23, expressed her excitement about the spectacular performance by Nidji, calling ‘Laskar Pelangi’ her favourite song of the night.
“I really, really enjoyed the performance, it was so awesome and just a great show throughout. ‘Laskar Pelangi’ was my favourite. If Nidji were to come again, I would most certainly watch it again,” she said.
Another concert-goer, Siti Elmira, 25, said she had so much fun singing along to Nidji’s ‘Hapus Aku’, and she also enjoyed Aris Idol’s ‘Jangan Pernah Berubah’.
“This was so much fun. It is also the first time Sarawak has collaborated with Indonesia to perform such an event. It was so fun,” she said.
The evening began with Meruked, showcasing traditional sounds with modern twists, followed by DJ Keyushee, Big Jamm, and Aris Idol.
Before the evening’s headline performance, another Indonesian band, Dadali, serenaded and wowed the crowd with their famous ‘Disaat Aku Mencintaimu’, bringing back nostalgic memories for anyone who had listened to their song some 15 years ago.
The concert’s headline performance by Nidji was electrifying, to say the least. Nidji’s lead singer, Yusof Ubay, entertained the crowd with incredible personality and carried the audience past midnight with popular songs such as ‘Disco Lazy Time’, ‘Hapus Aku’, ‘Wadoow’, and ‘Arti Sahabat’.
The event spanned two days, from Friday (Dec 29) to Saturday (Dec 30), at the Sarawak Cultural Village, attracting concert-goers from West Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and also from Indonesia.
Among those present were the Consul-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Raden Sigit Witjaksono, and Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin.
