SIBU: A man who stole four cans of pork meat at a local hypermarket on Dec 27 last year was sentenced to one month in jail by the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Jeniri Medang, 27, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of up to 10 years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The court ordered his sentence to run effective from the date of his arrest on Dec 27.
He committed the offence at Everwin Supermarket on Jalan Pahlawan on Dec 27 at 7.23 pm.
According to the facts of the case, Jeniri was stopped by a security guard who was informed by the supermarket manager of his suspicious act at around 7.55 pm.
Upon inspection, the guard found four cans of pork meat worth RM39.60 and for which the accused failed to produce a receipt for the items.
They proceeded to contact the police and arrested him for further investigation.
Jeniri’s act of stealing canned food was also recorded by a closed-circuit camera (CCTV).
