KUCHING: In the wake of a devastating fire in Kampung Bintawa Hilir, Pantai Damai assemblyman, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, offered aid to the affected residents during his visit today (Jan 5).
Abdul Rahman confirmed that 13 families impacted by the blaze have been temporarily relocated to the Kampung Bintawa Hilir community hall.
“Some of the fire victims have sought refuge with nearby relatives,” Abdul Rahman told reporters at the scene.
He further noted that the fire victims received support from the Pantai Damai Service Centre, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak, the State Social Welfare Department of Kuching Division, and other agencies.
Abdul Rahman urged the public to assist by coordinating with Penghulu Lahan Sabu and village chief Tahir Kassim.
The fire, which occurred around 1.20 am today, damaged nine houses—seven completely destroyed and two partially affected by fire debris.
Lahan reported that the fire erupted suddenly and quickly spread, damaging his property as well.
“The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and fortunately, no injuries have been reported,” he said.
