SIBU: A 34-year-old police sergeant has been remanded to assist in the investigation into an alleged case of cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property involving almost RM500,000.

He is remanded for three days beginning today.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern approved the remand application under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

This section provides for a minimum one-year imprisonment term and a maximum 10 years imprisonment term, along with whipping, and the individual shall also be liable to a fine upon conviction.

It is believed that the suspect received several money transactions from the victim in his bank account between October, November, and December of last year.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday upon the expiry of the remand order.
