MIRI: Deputy Minister of Health Malaysia cum Sibuti MP Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni wants Miri City Council (MCC) to organise more comprehensive development programmes to include all races, this year.

Lukanisman believed it would help to strengthen Miri as a vibrant city which could benefit the local community here.

Speaking at the Miri Melanau Association Christmas and New Year gathering here on Saturday night, he called on the association to take part actively in the development programmes organised by the city council.

“I hope, Miri City Council (MCC) mayor Adam Yii can work out comprehensive development programmes this year,” he pointed out.

On another note, Lukanisman also told the younger generation of Melanau to take pride and interest in preserving their cultural roots.

“With the technological progress and modernisation which we gradually embrace, we shall not forget our grassroots, our unique languages, art, traditional values and customs that have shaped us for generations,” he emphasised.

Lukanisman also reminded the Melanau community to maintain the cooperation with one another and extent it to other races as well.

“In line with Sarawak’s slogan ‘Segulai Sejalai’ which is also being adopted across Malaysia as well, we must uphold and promote it intensely to enable everyone to live in a harmonious, respectful and prosperous manner,” he told the crowd.

At the event, Lukanisman also presented financial aid to 10 e-Kasih recipients.

Also present were Yii, deputy mayor Cr Mohammad Ariffin, Federation of Melanau Associations Sarawak deputy president II and PMM advisor I, Datuk Alexander Maiyor, Temenggong Datuk Abdul Rahman Abang Fadzail and Miri Melanau Association president Cr Abdullah Jaini.
