KUCHING: An online gambling centre which was raking in more than RM60,000 a month has been crippled with the arrest of a key player behind the operation here.

The local suspect was arrested during a police raid on the premises at Jalan Stutong Baru on Friday.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said a laptop, router, modem, four mobile phones and various other equipment were also seized.

The centre is believed to have been operating since August 2023, exploiting platforms such as phone calls, WhatsApp, WeChat, Telegram, and even Facebook to promote online gambling.

“The syndicate, with a daily estimated earnings of approximately RM2,000 and a monthly potential exceeding RM60,000, now faces intensified scrutiny,” he said.

“However, the focus of law enforcement extends beyond the apprehended suspect as police are tracking down the actual owner of the raided premises.”

The suspect is being investigated under Section 4(1)(g) of the Open Gambling House Act 1953.
