KAPIT: The Sarawak government is committed to ensuring all medical and Health Ministry staff are well taken care of and are given the best facilities, which include accommodation.

Deputy Minister of Health Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said he had received many complaints about the unsatisfactory accommodation and working conditions.

Nevertheless, he said, cooperation and honest feedback from all stakeholders is essential to resolve unsatisfactory issues.

“This visit is also intended for me to see for myself the place or location that I want to plan for the construction of a new hospital building to accommodate the old building that is no longer adequate,” UKAS quoted him as saying report during his work visit at Kapit Hospital here recently.

On the shortage of doctors and health officers at Kapit Hospital, Lukanisman said he would look into it lessen their workload and be able to provide smooth services to cope with the increasing number of patients.

“The ministry will be ready to help as much as possible to meet the needs of a hospital, especially Kapit Hospital,” he said, adding that the appointment of the Hospital Visitor’s Badge Member should be done in a proper manner and not be influenced by political parties.

“This is because a head of the Board of Visitors also needs to give a high commitment to the hospital.”

Meanwhile, he also took the opportunity to visit the Kapit Health Clinic to see for himself the conditions there.

Lukanisman and his entourage were given a guided tour of the various  sections at the clinic, including the X-ray section, pharmacy, dentistry, mother and child clinic, laboratory and treatment rooms for medical officers and assistant medical officers.

Based on the requests and briefings given during the work visit, he said there are several urgent needs for both Kapit Hospital and Kapit Health Clinic that need attention and appropriate action.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Customs and Law) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Baleh assemblyman Nicolas Kudi Jantai, Kapit District Officer Cerisologo Sabut, Sarawak deputy state director (Medicine) Dr Azlee Ayob, Deputy director of Sarawak State Health (Dental) Dr Aminudin Mohd Natar, Kapit Division health officer Dr Drend Jores and Kapit Hospital director Dr Francis Lee.
