MIRI: A man who was trying to cross the Miri-Pujut road succumbed to his injuries after a vehicle hit him on Monday night in a hit-and-run incident.

Thomas Yong Teck Khiong, 52, suffered from serious injuries in the 10.40pm incident, said State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu in a press statement yesterday.

“It was believed that the victim was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road at the end of the flyover nearby the Bulatan Puchung, Miri-Bintulu Road,” he said.

The badly injured man was taken to Miri Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

“The car sped off from the scene after the incident,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
