KUCHING: Sports Toto Malaysia (STM) Lottery Sdn Bhd has generously distributed angpows and mini hampers to 400 deserving senior citizens in Kuching.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the charitable initiative, part of the 37th Sports Toto Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign, aims to spread festive cheer and support those in need.
“We are very grateful to STM for giving out donations and we hope our senior citizens will continue to be healthy for the coming festive celebration,” he said in a brief speech during the event held at Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society, Jalan Ellis here today (Jan 20).
According to STM Lottery, the six-day donation campaign, starting on January 18, 2024, is being conducted in 50 cities and towns nationwide, benefitting over 18,000 needy senior citizens aged 60 and above.
“Kuching is one of the 50 locations selected for this donation campaign,” it said.
To date, STM Lottery has contributed over RM25.6 million benefitting more than 455,000 senior citizens nationwide since the inception of the donation campaign in 1988.
This charitable initiative is an integral part of the Helping Hands programme, a corporate social responsibility and sustainability initiative by STM Lottery, aiming to spread festive cheer with the underprivileged.
Other than festive donations, STM Lottery also contributes substantially to the National Sports Council on a yearly basis, sporting events organised by local sports associations to help the development of national sporting talents, reading projects and environmental conservation campaigns.
