KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is tight – lipped about the resignation of Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and subsequent appointment as Governor of Sarawak.

Abang Johari said the appointment of the Sarawak Head of State is the prerogative of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

“I am unable to provide further comments publicly because the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has absolute powers over the matter.

“Therefore, I dare not comment further on the issue,” he told reporters after officiating at the Eden Damai Wellness at Damai Lagoon Resort, Santubong today (Jan 20).

Yesterday (Jan 19), Wan Junaidi was reported to have submitted his resignation as the Dewan Negara president, according to a news report by The Malaysian Insight.

The Malaysian Insight said in its news report that Wan Junaidi is expected to take the oath of office as Governor of Sarawak.

The current Governor is Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who has held the position since March 2014.
