KUCHING: The name of the eighth Sarawak Head of State is expected to be announced within the next two days.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that the proposed TYT has received approval from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“The TYT’s appointment process is at the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, (whereby the name) was proposed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and I have submitted the name to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last week.
“(The proposed name) has been approved and will be announced in a day or two,” the Prime Minister told reporters after an event at Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur today.
Anwar said a meeting tonight would address the appointment of the new Senate President, following Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s reported resignation on Jan 19.
On Jan 20, Abang Johari declined to comment about Wan Junaidi’s resignation and potential TYT appointment.
The Premier’s Office on Jan 21 clarified that there was no special meeting at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to discuss the appointment of a new Head of State.
The seventh Sarawak TYT, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, has served since 2014, with his term concluding at the end of February.
