KUCHING: An announcement on a new Head of State (TYT) for Sarawak is expected within these two days.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the candidate proposed to the eighth TYT has been approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“The TYT’s appointment process is at the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, (whereby the name) was proposed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and I submitted the name to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last week.
“(The proposed name) has been approved and will be announced in a day or two,” he said to reporters after attending a function at Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur on today (Jan 22).
Anwar also said that a meeting will be held with members of the Unity government on Monday night to discuss the appointment of a new Senate President.
Senate President Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar who was reported to have officially submitted his resignation has been speculated to be the new TYT.
On Jan 20, Abang Johari remained tight-lipped about Wan Junaidi’s resignation and subsequent appointment as Sarawak TYT.
Current Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has held the office since 2014.
Taib’s tenure as the TYT is set to expire at the end of February.
