KUCHING: It was a tough time for a woman in her early thirties, who is currently struggling to take care of her mentally challenged husband and her two schooling children.
That all changed when a concerned social worker from Sentosa hospital referred the family to Hope Place Kuching, requesting for assistance.
For further context, the woman, whose name is Puspasari Sejali is taking care of her husband Kamri, aged 47, an outpatient who has schizophrenia, thus made him unable to work due to his mental health.
“His wife used to be a security guard but after Kamri’s health worsens, she had to stop working.
“Kamri often goes to either Bau Hospital or Sentosa Hospital for check-ups. Furthermore, Kamri also suffers from hepatitis C and needs consistent medication,” Hope Place said in a press release.
Hope Place then stated the couple also has children, aged 11 and 14, and is now facing a financial crisis.
“With only the social welfare monthly aid of RM350 and Baitumal assistance, they are struggling to keep afloat financially.
“Besides medical bills, Puspasari also spends a lot in e-hailing taxi, every time she brings her husband for hospital follow-ups,” Hope Place added.
The NGO says with so much burden on her shoulders, Puspasari is thankful for the support of her in-laws and the assistance she receives.
“We are now supporting the family with supplies of basic food aid,” Hope Place said.
