KUCHING: Digital literacy among children must improve due to the increasing competitiveness in education that is becoming more apparent.

The number of children receiving early education before entering primary one in Sarawak showed a 98.85 per cent increase last year.

In stating this, Chief Political Secretary to the Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman encouraged the children to be more confident in facing an increasingly challenging landscape generally, especially in the trend of teaching and learning which required them to be more digitally literate.

He said such challenges should motivate the children to be more confident, more competitive and be more mature.

“I believe that if that maturity can be polished through focus and guidance of their parents, they can be nurtured to become future leaders.

”This increase in percentage is an improvement and an achievement to be proud of. The Sarawak state government has implemented various initiatives for the benefit and well-being of the children,” he said.
Fazzrudin also took time to congratulate Tabika KEMAS for evolving and changing over time and for being able to adapt to the challenges in business and education.

”It is important and crucial to prepare these children who are here to face the challenging and changing times that would eventually happen in the next 10 to 15 years,” he said in his address when officiating at the Tabika KEMAS Convocation at Penview Convocation Centre yesterday.

Moreover, the Tupong assemblyman added that free tertiary education, one of the several initiatives to be implemented by the state government in 2026, would offer more job opportunities and high returns to the state’s income.

“This initiative will guarantee job opportunities for the children of Sarawak, where institutions such as Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEX) will offer courses where Sarawakians can then study and have future jobs.

”We want to ensure that job opportunities are offered in various sectors; that way, Sarawak’s future is assured and will continue to grow,” he said.

During the event, a total of 466 Tabika KEMAS children from the Petrajaya constituency received their scrolls and achievement awards.
