SIBU: The public is advised to refrain from joining any Facebook Pages associated with the account of Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang, in the wake of a security breach by hackers.

Tiang said he was notified by several individuals about his Facebook account being misused to send out invites to a page named ‘Susmita Kumari’.

“These invites are the work of hackers. I strongly advise against accepting these invites due to potential scamming activities,” he said during a press conference at the Sarawak United People Party (SUPP) Pelawan Service Centre today (Jan 28).

The Pelawan assemblyman had also called for public support in reporting the compromised Facebook page to Metaverse.

“The persistent nature of these attacks, even after regaining control of my account multiple times, suggests a political agenda aimed at disrupting my communication with the public through social media,” he said.

Detailing the timeline of events, Tiang said that the hacking began on December 16 last year. Immediate actions were taken to report the incident to Metaverse, alongside lodging complaints with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

“Despite these measures, the hackers managed to gain control of my page, which has a following of over 26,000,” he added.

Tiang had abandoned the hacked account and established a new page, “Pusat Khidmat N.54 Pelawan,” to maintain his service to the constituency.
