MIRI: In January this year, a total of 7,656 individuals, constituting 14 per cent of recipients statewide, benefitted from the ‘Sejambak Kasih’ programme, with 835 recipients hailing from Miri, receiving an allocation totalling RM765,600.
Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah disclosed that in the previous year, from January to December, the Welfare Department disbursed assistance amounting to RM254,927,850 to 56,169 recipients across the state.
“Out of this total, 4,607 recipients were from Miri Division, receiving an allocation of RM22,301,550 in 2023,” she said.
For the current year (2024), Miri Welfare Department has already disbursed assistance totalling RM1,848,100 to 4,393 recipients in January alone.
The ‘Sejambak Kasih’ Chinese New Year programme on Tuesday (Jan 30) was attended by deputy minister Datuk Rosey Yunus and Dynasty Hotel managing director Tony Pui.
