KUCHING: Sarawak Society for Parents of Children with Special Needs (PIBAKAT) received a donation of RM10,000 from Plaza Merdeka during the launch of the Lunar New Year Bazaar at the shopping centre here, yesterday.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah expressed gratitude to Plaza Merdeka for their support towards PIBAKAT.
“As the person in charge of addressing the needs of individuals with disabilities, we are extremely grateful for this gesture and we hope that others will also take inspiration from Plaza Merdeka’s action. Non-governmental organisations such as PIBAKAT rely on the assistance of the general public, local community, and corporate sector, particularly in terms of financial aid,” she said.
She was officiating at the launch of the Lunar New Year Bazaar, which radiated a vibrant atmosphere of inclusiveness and unity.
Fatimah stressed the significance of such events in promoting comprehension and admiration within the varied population of Sarawak.
“I would like to commend what I have witnessed recently and its role in promoting the vibrant mix of cultures in Sarawak. It not only celebrates diversity, but also fosters unity within the state.
“As I observe my surroundings, I notice that this is Sarawak. It’s not just the Chinese who visit and observe what’s going on here, but we also see other ethnicities present. They are not hesitant or reserved,” she said.
“In Sarawak, we do not engage in such activities. Instead, we observe, gain knowledge, and take pleasure in the performances and festivities that take place in our state, all while enjoying them together.
According to her, the charm of Sarawak lies in its diverse population, which allows us to come together and celebrate each other’s festivals during the festive season.
The Lunar New Year Bazaar is open until February 25, promising a wide variety of treats including food, drinks, accessories and clothing from over 10 vendors.
Furthermore, Plaza Merdeka not only held a Cheongsam contest and showcased a Lion Dance, but also unveiled fresh stores like Monozone and dining choices like Seoul Chicken, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
