KUCHING: Twenty-six residents narrowly escaped a devastating blaze after their quarters in Jalan Semangat, Pending Industrial here was destroyed by fire on Saturday night (Feb 3).

Miraculously, all of them were unharmed as one of the three blocks of the quarters belonging to the Multi Resources Factory was razed to the ground.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call at 9.56pm and a team of firefighters from Tabuan Jaya, Padungan and Petra Jaya fire station were dispatched to the scene.

“Block A measuring 80 by 20 square meters was 100 percent destroyed by the fire while block B and C were not damaged by the fire.

“The fire began from the middle section of block A and all the residents in the other blocks of the quarters managed to escape the fire,” the Bomba spokesman said.

The spokesman also revealed that the total residents from the three blocks were 26 residents, 8 residents from 3 families residing in block A.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control at 10.51pm and concluded their operation at 12.32am.

The cause of the fire and total losses have yet to be ascertained.
