KUCHING: A local company made the celebration of World Cancer Day all the more more meaningful for the Sarawak Pink Ribbon Support Group Association here on Sunday.
Timuran Kembangan, a waste management company in Sarawak donated food items to the association as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, the donation of 30 packs of rice was handed over by Timuran Kembangan’s adviser, Datuk Rahman Lariwoo, in a brief ceremony at the Sarawak Pink Ribbon Support Group Centre in Petra Jaya on Sunday.
The donation was one of their company’s CSR activities aimed at easing the burden of the association’s members in carrying out planned activities.
“We are deeply moved to be able to contribute a little to this association to enable them to carry out programmes.
“We will continue to support this association in whatever needs they may have in the future,” Rahman said.
Meanwhile, the President of Lions Club Kuching Allamanda, who is also a representative of CanHOPE Kuching, Connie Tan, said they have carried out various activities and programmes for breast cancer patients and survivors at the centre.
The activities include social support, sharing sessions with cancer patients and those still ill to help them remain resilient in facing the challenges in life.
“We also have activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, and water therapy to support them in living normally.
“This includes helping them start small businesses such as cake-making sessions, flower arrangement as a source of income for them,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy President of the Sarawak Pink Ribbon Support Group Association, Hayati Daud, who is a former breast cancer patient, said the association was established in 2012 with the aim of providing support and awareness to the public, especially those suffering from the disease.
She also thanked Timuran Kembangan and CanHOPE Kuching for their willingness to donate and support the association.
Also present were Timuran Kembangan founder Johnny Ting and President of the Padawan Kuching Foochow Women’s Association Nancy Lau.
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Batu Kawa association, which also attended, brought along the ‘God of Wealth’ to further brighten the event.
Set up in 2019, the Sarawak Pink Ribbon Support Group Association is located at D’Heritage Phase 2, Petra Jaya.
