KUCHING: The Sarawak government will be constructing a new water plant in Landeh to boost the production capacity of the water supply throughout the city and nearby districts.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this was to meet the rising demand from both industries and the growing population.

“We are expecting the population here to continue to grow and the expansion of various industries in the next few years; thus, we are already taking steps to ensure adequate water supply for the surrounding areas and districts.

“The proposed water treatment plant will play a crucial role in enhancing capacity and meeting the evolving needs of the community,” he said at a press conference after the official ceremony of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) at Demak Laut today (Feb 6).

Abang Johari said that the state government has consistently prioritised the development of the state and the welfare of its people over political agendas.

“We don’t engage in politics here and there (like other states) as we are too busy focusing on essential infrastructure projects, including affordable housing, water and electricity supply, as well as the construction of roads and bridges,” he added.
