KUCHING: The district police headquarters (IPD) will deploy a total of 193 policemen for two operations in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
The operations, namely the integrated ‘Ops Cegah Jenayah’, will involve 153 policemen from all divisions under Kuching IPD, while ‘Ops Selamat’ will engage 40 policemen from the Kuching traffic police division.
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said ‘Ops Cegah Jenayah’ will target crowded public areas, particularly commercial zones.
He said the operation aims to inspect motorcycles and cars, and monitor criminal activities within the administrative areas of the stations.
“This district is the main contributor to the crime index for the Sarawak Contingent, necessitating robust preventive measures.
“Our approach seeks to instil a sense of deterrence among criminals through heightened police presence. Additionally, it aims to safeguard community safety, protect road users, and maintain public order, especially in the city during Chinese New Year celebrations,” he said in a statement.
On ‘Ops Selamat’, which runs from Feb 8 to 13, the police will oversee traffic management to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Ahsmon urged individuals leaving their homes for festivities or vacations to complete the ‘Borang balik kampung’ form available at local police stations or via the VSP 2.0 app and Kuching IPD Facebook page.
He also advised the public to plan their journeys, undertake necessary preparations, drive responsibly, and adhere to traffic laws.
