KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu has confirmed that his son was arrested by police after testing positive for drugs in an anti-vice raid on an entertainment outlet here in the wee hours on Saturday.
“I was informed about my son, Ahmad Saiful Islam Mohamad’s arrest by police today (Saturday).
“Following this arrest, my family and I leave the matter entirely to the authorities to act in accordance with the due process of the law,” he said in a statement.
Mohamad, who is also Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) presiden, said his son, just like the children of others, was also subject to the laws of the country.
Ahmad Saiful, 31, was picked up by the Dang Wangi Narcotics Crime Investigation Department and its Secret Society, Gaming and Vice Division (D7), in a raid on the outlet located in Jalan Ampang at 12.30am.
Ahmad Saiful was among 101 persons, 55 of them women,who were asked to undergo urine tests and he was among two who tested positive for ganja. They were subsequently detained.
City police deputy chief Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob confirmed the arrests.
Ahmad Saiful was later released on a police bail in the afternoon.
Zainuddin said the second suspect, aged 33, who is Ahmad Saiful’s friend, was also released on police bail. Police are investigating the case under Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, for drug abuse.
