SARATOK: The younger generation needs to understand the ‘ngabang’ culture during the festive season in order to keep it alive for posterity.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said that the practice of visiting during the festive season is very significant, especially to strengthen friendship between communities of multiple races and religions.

He however noted that the younger generation was less keen due to the influence of smart gadgets.

“That’s why on a visit to the house of Chinese friends in Saratok, I brought the leadership of the Youth Wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) or Gerak Parti PBB 1828.

“The purpose is to reveal the good relationship between different races and religions.

“They should be aware that the existence of close-knit fraternity between communities of multiple races and religions has resulted in Sarawak being able to develop as it is now.

“We do not reject smart gadgets which are considered the main needs of this age, but sometimes understand the culture of ‘ngabang’ so that it continues to flourish,” he said.

He said this after making a Chinese New Year visit to Pemanca Lim Guan Ann’s house together with Krian assemblyman Friday Belik.
