LIMBANG: Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail has stepped forward to assist the victims of the recent fire in Kampung Bakol here.
The fire, which occurred around 3 pm on Monday (Feb 12), resulted in the collapse of the houses belonging to seven residents from three families, leaving them without shelter.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, provided essential aid to the affected families, including food, mattresses, pillows, and financial assistance as immediate relief measures.
He said the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) had already offered initial aid, such as food and basic necessities like mattresses, pillows, and toothbrushes.
“I understand that JKMS will also provide house building equipment and kitchen equipment amounting to RM8,000,” he was quoted as saying in an UKAS report.
He added that the federal government has a Program PerumahanRakyat Termiskin (PPRT) whereby his ministry will distribute this assistance every year.
He said the programme targets individuals registered in the e-Kasih System, and one of the victims of the fire was registered in the system.
“We will work to secure a PPRT allocation for the construction of a house for one of the affected families,” he added.
