SRI AMAN: An elderly woman died after she was hit by a car while crossing the road along KM49, Jalan Sri Aman-Sarikei yesterday (Feb 21).
Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the accident happened around 11.20 am when the victim identified as Endayan Ngabong, 73, was crossing from the right side to the centre of the road.
“Due to the sudden crossing, a car heading to Miri from Kuching, knocked into the victim after the driver failed to avoid her.
“After the collision, the driver got out and assisted the victim, who sustained head injuries, into the vehicle before driving her to Skrang health clinic, some 5km away.
“However, she was pronounced dead upon arrival by a medical doctor at the clinic,” he said.
The body was taken to Sri Aman Hospital for a post-mortem.
Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
