BINTULU: An Indonesian woman and her nine-month-old baby girl were left injured after a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder exploded in their rented house at Taman Kemena Sutera today (Feb 22).

The 29-year-old victim, who sustained burns, received preliminary treatment on-site while, her daughter, whose injuries are unknown, was rushed to the hospital by the public before the authorities arrived.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Bintulu station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.01 am.

Upon arrival, the team confirmed the explosion involving a gas cylinder and the door of the house had been opened by the public.

The team conducted inspections inside and around the house to ensure there was no gas leak before ending the operation at 10.28 am.

At the time of writing, the baby girl’s condition is not yet known.
