KUCHING: The two-day inaugural Borneo SMEs Festival 2024 features 21 small and medium enterprises (SME) from Kalimantan and Sarawak.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the Feb 23-24 event which encompasses various sectors such as F&B, trading and travel, aims to showcase the entrepreneurial spirit and potential of the Borneo region.

“As part of the festivities, attendees will have the opportunity to witness the traditional Nusantara art of Merangkai Janur, the coconut leaf arranging, presented by the President of the Association of Indonesian Arranging Flowers.

“Under the theme ‘Janur goes to Borneo,’ this demonstration seeks to highlight the universal appeal of traditional arts and crafts, inviting the people of Borneo to embrace and celebrate their cultural heritage,” he said.

He said this during the launching ceremony of the 1st Borneo SMEs Festival at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia here on today.

Wee said the state envisioned even greater collaboration and participation in future events, with the inclusion of SMEs from Sabah and Brunei, further enhancing regional cooperation and economic prosperity.

“I urge everyone to join us in person or online for the Borneo SMEs Festival, as we come together to support and empower local businesses.

“Together, let us forge a brighter future for the Borneo region,” he said.
