SIBU: Police have successfully resolved the recently viral stabbing case involving a woman in Sibu Jaya today (24 Feb), with the arrest of a 27-year-old man believed to be acquainted with the victim.
A 20-second CCTV footage, which showed the suspect brutally stabbing the victim multiple times, has been circulating on social media since yesterday (23 Feb).
According to Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, the tragic incident occurred when the victim refused to lend money to the suspect.
“The police received information from the public that the 24-year-old victim was found lying on the roadside near a shop at 3.10 pm. She was then taken to the hospital for further treatment.
“However, around 11.34 pm, we received information that the victim had passed away.
Therefore, we are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said at a press conference at the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) today (Feb 24).
He added that the police managed to arrest a 27-year-old man, believed to be the stabber, to assist in the investigation.
“Meanwhile, medical examinations confirmed six stab wounds on the victim’s body. The police also seized a knife and the clothes worn by the stabber during the incident,” he said.
Zulkipli said that the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and has a previous criminal record under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Another individual, a 28-year-old man without a criminal background or drug involvement, has also been detained to support the ongoing investigation.
“Both are being remanded for seven days,” he added.
He urged the public not to spread false news through viral videos.
