KANOWIT: The Jelajah Belia programme, organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, is a good platform to identify programmes for youngsters.

In stating this, Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said that youth from different areas might need different types of programmes, and that through the programme the ministry would be able to identify what the youth need.

“This is crucial in formulating programmes at the ministry level. When we go down to the ground, certain officers will note down the desires and aspirations of the youth.

“The aspirations and needs of urban and rural youth are sometimes different. So, when we know their desires, we can formulate more organised programmes for rural and urban areas because the demands and hopes of youth are different,” he said after the launching of the Jelajah Belia programme here on today (Feb 24).

The programme held at the Kanowit District Office Hall, involved a total of 500 youth from the Machan and Ngemah state constituencies.

Abdul Karim also said that organising such programme would to some extent inject enthusiasm among the youth to contribute to the development of the state.

“When we go down to the ground, we can see youth who are eager for various things such as internet connectivity in their areas and also sports facilities from the feedback given through the town hall.

“We can arrange what we can for rural youth and urban youth. We can elevate them, we can mould them into good youth for the future of this state,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the upcoming Malaysia Games (Sukma) Sarawak, he expressed concerns as only 176 days remain before it begins.

“I do have concerns because such a large-scale sports event involving 37 sporting events is bigger than the Olympics. Sports facilities must be top-notch.

“Besides that, the organisation concerning logistics, accommodation, and everything must be organised.

“I believe those entrusted to organise it, in terms of improving infrastructure, organising logistics, transportation, and accommodation, will do it well. I believe when the time comes, we will be ready,” said Abdul Karim.
