PTTEP reaches out to empower Sarawak, Sabah students

KUCHING: PTTEP, a petroleum exploration and production company, has contributed over RM370,000 through the Malaysia Relief Agency (MRA) to foster education, environment and empowerment among students in East Malaysia.

The MRA aims to uplift and empower the lives of more than 500 students from diverse communities in Sabah and Sarawak.

According to a press statement PTTEP Malaysia contributed RM376,000 and hosted several sustainable initiatives to benefit 17 schools, located in Bintulu and Kuching in Sarawak, Papar, Beaufort and Ranau in Sabah and Labuan

“This contribution, made under MRA’s We Care Sarawak and We Care Sabah programmes, demonstrated PTTEP’s commitment to three out of its four corporate social responsibility (CSR) pillars, namely Basic Needs, Education, and Environment,” it said.

PTTEP Head of Malaysia Sarawak Asset, Denkey Thatchaichawalit, said it has extended its CSR engagement this year with more government agencies in Sarawak and Sabah, including the Papar District Health Department, Beaufort District Health Office and, Bintulu as well as Tatau Fire and Rescue Stations.

Contributing to environmental conservation efforts, Denkey (centre) and others participated in a tree planting initiative in selected East Malaysian schools.

“With their support and resources, we were able to go beyond traditional donations and provide environmental stewardship, fire prevention and emergency response, health talks as well as career exploration initiatives,” he added.

He also said that PTTEP was proud to work with MRA because they share their vision and commitment to foster education, community well-being, and environmental consciousness.

“By joining hands, we are able to contribute in a more meaningful
manner to deserving communities,” he said.

Children from two schools in Sarawak were also given the opportunity to learn and witness a fire prevention and emergency response demonstration conducted by Fire and Rescue Stations from Bintulu and Tatau.

In Sabah, students from two schools attended health talks on personal and dental hygiene, conducted by representatives from the Sabah Health Department.

Contributing to environmental conservation efforts, students and volunteers from PTTEP Malaysia also participated in a tree planting initiative, creating a PTTEP Mini Garden or Taman Mini PTTEP in five schools in Sabah, complete with various types of fruit trees and a mini herb garden.
