SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is in the process of restructuring the management of public toilets under its jurisdiction, says Cr Richard Ting Ping Kiong, the Standing Committee chairman for Public Health, Environmental & Municipal Services at SMC.

Ting highlighted the existence of different contracts for public toilets, varying across park smart partnership toilets, food centres, markets, and recreation parks managed by landscape and public health units.

He expressed the council’s intention to rationalise and standardise the management of public toilets for improved efficiency and service quality.

“We are trying to look into rationalising the whole management of the public toilets and standardise the public toilet services,” he explained during a press briefing while assessing the condition of the public toilet at Sibu Central Market on Tuesday (Feb 27).

Ting pointed out that certain public toilet contractors are responsible for maintenance, minor replacements, and repairs, charging different entry fees.

However, for other types of public toilets, contractors focus solely on cleaning, with the council handling replacements and repairs. Some fall under the purview of NGO’s smart partnership.
