MUKAH: Police have arrested two couples suspected of involvement in an attempted vehicle theft that occurred yesterday (Feb 27).
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias in a statement, said that the local suspects, aged between 20 and 36, were apprehended at 4.15pm.
He shared that they had received preliminary information from the public, who attempted to apprehend the suspects at a road leading to Mukah Polytechnic after they were caught trying to steal a motorcycle.
“The suspects failed in their attempt and fled the scene in a black Perodua Kancil.
“A police team managed to detect the vehicle and stopped it for inspection at Simpang Bukut, Jalan Mukah-Selangau.
“However, all four suspects tried to escape from the police. Their efforts were quickly thwarted by the team, who had to use minimal force to arrest them,” he said.
Upon checking the vehicle, it was discovered that the license plate was fake, and the vehicle had been reported missing.
During investigations, the suspects, who tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, had confessed to being involved in several motorcycle thefts around Mukah and Selangau.
Rizal added that two of the suspects had prior records related to drugs and crimes while, the others had no records.
He pointed out that the male suspects are being remanded for four days until Mar 3, while the female suspects are remanded until Feb 29.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He advised the public not to speculate, as it could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
