MIRI: Dilapidated government quarters nationwide are in urgent need of government attention.
In disclosing this on Wednesday after an engagement session with police here Wednesday, Cuepacs, the umbrella body for civil service unions, called on the federal government to take immediate action to address this issue.
“These living spaces are in urgent need of repair and maintenance to ensure the well-being and safety of the occupants,” said Cuepacs president Datuk Adnan Mat.
He emphasised the importance of providing suitable housing for public servants who play a crucial role in serving the community.
Thus, he added, it is crucial for the government to prioritise the repair of these quarters to create a conducive living environment for its employees,” Adnan said.
Earlier, he was briefed on the current state of the police barracks here by Miri deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol.
According to Supt Mohd Sabri, the police headquarters here which was established in 1976, is currently facing a major issue with 30 of its barracks being in a dilapidated condition.
“This has raised concerns about the living conditions of the police officers stationed there, and we hope Cuepacs can bring forward the pressing issue of repairing the barracks to the federal government to address the situation and improve the living conditions of the police personnel,” he said.
Prior to Adnan’s visit to the police headquarters, he had gone to the District Education Office for a similar engagement session.
