MPP holds Chinese New Year Open House

KOTA PADAWAN:  Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) yesterday celebrated its Chinese New Year Open House for 2024 with its newly appointed chairman, Tan Kai.

Addressing the gathering, Tan Kai emphasised the importance of continuing the annual event which promoted unity and served as a platform for visitors to learn about the diverse cultures in Sarawak.

“Every year, MPP celebrates various festivals to promote unity, including Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Gawai  and others.

Tan Kai delivers his speech.

“This is in line with Sarawak’s state policy, which promotes peace and harmony among all ethnicities throughout the state,” he said during the event held in the MPP Building compound. 

The event, which began at 2.30 pm, was attended by over 100 guests, including local residents and members of the Chinese community.

“This event is the perfect time for all of us to interact and mingle with our new friends.

 “I believe the concepts of ‘Malaysia Madani’ and ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’  will make Sarawak a better place for us to enjoy a peaceful and harmonious life,”  said Tan Kai.

He said he would ensure MPP  fulfilled its duties this year in line with qualities symbolised by the Year of the Dragon, namely, courage, honour, creativity and innovation.

Present during the celebration were Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, who  represented Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian,  Batu Kitang assemblyman and former MPP chairman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, Dewan Negara Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim and other distinguished guests.
